Kult X aims to clean, restore and return to wider social, community and cultural uses, the riverfront from Kumartuli Ghat to Ahiritola Ghat and their historic adjacent areas in Kolkata.
We hope to do this in 5 years – 2024 to 2029 – by working with local stakeholders and with support and funding from a range of partners
UNESCO World Heritage status
The Hooghly has played a key role in the economic growth of the city.
Today, Kumartuli artisans bring together modern creativity with a strong tradition of sustainability.
It’s where entrepreneurship, social progress, art and culture blossomed. The story of the Indian freedom struggle lies deep in the fabric of North Kolkata.
North Kolkata has given home and employment to many men and women, welcoming them from different parts of India. Old homes and warehouses in the area provide direct links to this rich and significant history of the city.
The riverside still provides basic leisure and washing facilities for people living near the river banks. It is increasingly becoming a site for modern culture, be it music, performance or visual art
