River Ambassador Project
100 Ambassadors over 3-years

in collaboration with Living Waters Museum and Sea Explorers Institute
Our Aim
To inspire a new group of people, the River Ambassadors, to protect, preserve and care for the ghats in their day-to-day working lives. The improved spaces will increase their income and livelihood and also create clean and sustainable spaces.
We believe that open public areas have to be cared for by those who are there most of the time for their livelihoods.
This pilot programme has recruited tea sellers, ghat cleaners and a barber in the pilot.
The Training Programme
• learning about the history of the ghats and the importance of the River Hooghly to the city
• cleanliness and sustainability of the river and the surrounding areas
• training in life saving and disaster management.
